If it's wrong, I've probably said it...

It's kind of old, but it's one of my favorite pictures I've found on the net. My favorite part is that South Korea looks almost like an island off the coast of China since North Korea is so dark.

Yee-ha! for NASA!!!

I love that you can make out the borders of India in a sea of black... looks pretty cool.

You're right. It looks really neat. I also like the contrast of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean

It also makes me want to move to alaska so I don't have all those lights from Vegas (I could pinpoint vegas easy.. lol) getting in the way of the stars... I miss the stars soo much here..

I loved visiting Vegas a few years ago. We had a lot of fun, but I couldn't imagine living there. Even outside the city, the glow has got to be hard at night.

Wallpaper...that's a good idea.   Do you know a good place for a high-res version of this pic?

That's where I got it from originally. I cut it down to add to this blog, but I use the larger sized version for my background.

You can find many cool pictures, including the earthlights picture at -

http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html

They refeature the earthlights pic every now and then. They change the dates but I don't think it's an updated picture. It was just the picture of the day a couple days ago, but the date on the photo itself was Aug 11, 2002, which is the last time it was the photo of the day. So, I think they may just be refeaturing it, rather than putting up a new version. I'd like to see a new version, though, to compare how the lights may have changed over time.
