If it's wrong, I've probably said it...

Last night I was IM'ing with a good friend of mine in Korea. He had to take a break to look at something at work and when he came back, he mentioned something about a poorly translated phrase he saw. He then said that he gets to deal with similar stuff sometimes. We laughed about how sometimes poor language research can lead to a disastrous name like when Chevroley introduced the Nova to Spanish speaking countries (for those that don't know, no va in Spanish means doesn't go). Another that linguists here about often is when Coca-cola first moved into China, they thought it might be a good idea to use the Chinese picture characters that sounded most like Coca-cola to market the soft drink. But apparently the characters, when read, translated roughly to 'bite the wax tadpole'.

Well, in our conversation he mentioned a drink in Korea called Coolpis (XHV OU GD for SKATS capable readers - ÄðÇǽº for those that aren't - once again, change your encoding if you can't read the Korean right away). Here's a picture:

While searching for this picture, I came across a website that I was aware of in the past, but hadn't spent any time exploring it. Well, I went through it a little bit last night and there's some priceless stuff there. Here are some of my favorites:

Another picture of Coolpis!

Cheerful Hamster Curry!

How about a handful of dewdew?

One for the ladies...

Not to be confused with Eric Clapton.

Actually, the 'nippless' one looks like it was done pretty well. Sure it's kind of an odd product, but it certainly appears to live up to its name.

That is one of their classics.  It's the dreaded "grittering" alligators.

T-SHIT

also did you see the 102nd No smokins fuel truck?

Never saw that one. But it helps to never be stationed there... I've done my division time in Hawaii. In Korea, I was at brigade.
