If it's wrong, I've probably said it...
More Pirates

Years ago (1991), I was a part of a GASP (Gilbert And Sullivan Players) production of The Pirates of Penzance - The Slave of Duty. It was my first attempt at community theater and it was a lot of fun. In honor of National Talk Like a Pirate Day, I dug out some OLD pictures from that production and scanned them.

So, here you go -

Pour, O pour the pirate sherry;
Fill, O fill the pirate glass;
And, to make us more than merry
Let the pirate bumper pass.

There weren't enough men in the cast, so during the second act, half of us had to change costumes and be cops.

singing.........you'll say a major general has never rode a horse........for my military knowledge though it's plucky and adventurey, has only been brought down to the beginning of the century, in short in matters vegetable, animal and mineral I am the very model of a modern major general......DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT!!!!!!! I'd finally gotten all those lyrics out of my head forever. BLAST YOU AND YOUR GILBERT AND SULLIVAN!!!!!!

How will I ever get a rhyme like "I know the kings of england and I quote the fights historical from Marathon to Waterloo in order categorical" out now??? Modern Major Specialist Signing Off!!!!!!......

I mean really, a pilot, not a pirate.....p-p-please.......

I mean, not that I've ever done musical theatre before, umm, yeah....right. (gives defiant look of manly denial and puffs out chest, wrists at his side definitely not limp....)

Never! You'll just have to live with it! There are worse songs to have stuck in your head... 'Turn back time' by Cher... 'Blame it on the rain' by Milli Vanilli... or anything by the Red Hot Chili Peppers...SHUDDER!

Yeah... make sure you wipe off that stage make up before you say something like that...

What's funny is that the only other Gilbert and Sullivan I ever did was Ruddigore. In the Pirates of Penzance movie with Kevin Kline, they actually take a song from Ruddigore and perform it.

When I was in high-school I always found it incredibly funny that guys went around dressed up like cowboys. So I started dressing up like a pirate...nobody got it.

/sigh

Is that why he wore more make-up than I did when we were in college?

Anyway, I spent the summer after high school playing in the orchestra for a production of Pirates. What a blast! I miss theater. Have you been to the outdoor theater in Carmel? We saw Peter Pan (among other things) there and it was really cool.

Btw, I saw something last week that made me think of you. I went to deliver a pizza, and the lady at the door had a tatoo on the side of her neck that said...........................
