If it's wrong, I've probably said it...
But that may change...

Apparently, my best eye catching title in a while was based on a hoax... Oh, well, I'm a sucker. HAHAHAHA! Thanks to shadesofgrey for keeping me honest!

Apparently the story is not true and Hostettler is not a happy camper...

That may be the best attention catching headline I've posted since Why I have to sit on my hands when riding in greywar's car. HAHA!

I heard about this proposed name change for Interstate 69 on the radio on the drive home. The DJ mentioned it in his weird news of the day (right before the 4:20 Toke It or Choke It song). You can find an article about it here - Hostettler mounting campaign to change the name of Interstate 69. Mostly this is a small potatos thing, in my mind, but hey, it doesn't hurt me (or anyone other than possibly some marketeers) whether they change the name or not.

The article claims that this Congressman has succumbed to the pressure of religious groups to change the name of the highway. While I don't doubt that some religious groups find the name I-69 offensive, I don't think that this is something that only religious people find offensive. Now, before you make any assumptions about my beliefs, I'm a big fan of the separation of church and state. But in this case, I don't think this is the issue and their opinion should not be discounted just because it is a religious group.

Now, I'll also admit this is small potatoes and there are bigger things for legislatures to worry about. But also, isn't this what our elected officials are supposed to do? If something is brought to their attention, they need to at least give it some consideration?

One quick quote from Hostettler - "Every time I have been out in the public with an 'I-69' button on my lapel, teenagers point and snicker at it. I have had many ask me if they can have my button. I believe it is time to change the name of the highway. It is the moral thing to do."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'd ask for one, too! But, I'm a Wrong Brother.

Apparently, the numbering system law in Indiana may make this an easy fix. According to the article, the highways must be named in a specific order going east to west and 69 will be on the wrong side of 63.

Me, too!

Seriously, though . . . I would think that they would have problems with signs being stolen, and that should be cause enough to change it. Besides, religious people 69, too!

The new highway has been in the planning stages for years through Southern IN. It goews N to S. so it is an odd number, other than that who cares?
It will go by DharmaGirls in-laws place. May ruin the rural vibe but save a lot of travel on trips.

I hadn't even thought of that, yet. Think of the budget!

Heh. What's the idiot wearing a button for, anyway? Of course he's going to get reactions from teenagers.

Anyway, I'm with the rest of the people using their brains: There is nothing immoral about 69. The jokes, however, may be immoral, but not the act--er, I mean, the highway itself.

It's always funny when very moral types ask for something to be banned just because it reminds them of things they don't want to think about.

Awesome article, i knew it would be a trick article, dammit!

Chiprj, Thanks for this post. That link took me back in blogs before I knew they existed. I enjoyed the story of why you sit on your hands when riding with greywar.

We have an "I-69" in Michigan

It's the same as what currently runs into Indiana, which is what the "extention" is referring to.  So, blame Michigan for the moral issues of "I-69"!

You should add "drunk" to the beginning of that to be accurate
