If it's wrong, I've probably said it...
This one goes out to all the Soldiers out there

I just found out about this program today. You can find more information at the Freedom Team Salute Program site.

Basically, it allows any Army Soldier, whether they be active duty or reserves/national guard, to recognize the people that support them in a special way. Active duty Soldiers can recognize one spouse and two parents and the reserve and national guard Soldiers can also recognize their outside the Army employer.

Veterans can also go to the site and nominate themselves.

After the nomination is processed at the site, the nominee will receive a packet that includes an Official Army Lapel Pin (mounted on a card) , an Official Army Decal, a Certificate of Appreciation signed by both the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Army, and a Letter of Thanks signed by both the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Army.

I got to see samples at our company training meeting today. They are actually pretty sharp. There are pictures at the site.

So, if you are a Soldier or veteran, stop by the site and recognize the people that support you. It takes all of five minutes to do it. I stopped by today to nominate my wife and will be back tomorrow to nominate both my parents (I have to double check their addresses - don't know them off the top of my head).

Thanks for pointing this out. Sounds neat. Just signed up all three people allowed!

Two of my three have gotten their certificates. Oddly, my mother didn't get hers, although she is still married to and living with my father, and he got his.

Thanks again for pointing this out. It was a pleasant surprise to my family (and to me, as I can't remember anything farther back than three days ago, so I had long forgotten about this).
