When I worked in the grocery store, I would superglue change to the floor in our back room. Most employees came through our back room to get to the break room, so this supplied me with a continuous parade of people that would try to pick up the change. I did this on the sales floor a few times, too. I had to quit after I watched a guy spend 5 minutes on his hands and knees trying to pry a quarter off the floor with his car keys. I also used the old fishing line and dollar bill trick...

If I could get a person 'on the line' with my half a head of lettuce story, I usually would reel them in with this one... Every day, we took turns buying a two liter bottle of Coke to drink in the produce back room. This was my day, so I was standing in line at the checkout waiting my turn. The old lady in front of me glanced back at me and then did a double take. She had a weird look in her eyes, and since I was in my uniform (a green vest, peach tie, and a name tag) I figured in the n...

So, many years ago, before I joined the Army, I worked in the produce department of a grocery store. I had a lot of good times there. It was a great place to play jokes and have them played on me... But here's a story from my time there. I was out restocking some fruit or veggie when an old man came up to me and said that he only wanted half a head of lettuce. Now, I was used to requests from customers, even slightly odd ones, but this one really bothered me. You see, that week, our b...

This is going to turn into a multiparter because there's just too many for one post. For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed playing jokes on people. I try to stay good-natured and there are lines that I won't cross, but a good laugh at another's expense is a good day for me. A good laugh at my expense is also a good day. I think I'm a good sport and I don't mind them being played on me - too much. I can take a joke; I just like doing them better. At the last place I worked, we ...

Today I had to go to a funeral for an Air Force retired Lt Col. We had practice yesterday, but there was another full honors funeral, so most of my fire team was there. Practice consisted of letting the new guy practice with the weapon. One of our other new guys was absent and I had him on my list to go on Friday, so I managed to get another airman that would show in case this guy didn't. I also got to meet with the Air Force 1LT that would come with us on the funeral. When an enlisted s...

A sergeant was passing the barracks after lights out, when he heard some voices from inside. He threw open the door, and shouted: Listen, you guys! A few minutes ago you heard me say "Good night." What you must realize, is that when I say "Good Night," what I really mean is "Shut the f*ck Up!" After a few seconds, from somewhere in the far back of the dark room: "Good Night, Sergeant."

Pseudosoldier ( Link ) wrote an article about comic book movies ( Link ) and I quickly hijacked the comments to talk about comics themselves, so I decided to write a little about some of my favorite comics that can be bought in trade paperback form now... Some of these are still ongoing, but back issues have been collected in trade form for the most part. Warren Ellis writes the first few on this list (Stormawatch, Authority, Planetary). Ellis comes off as a bit of a prick in some of th...

First edit - took the name out of the title... I get emails all day long from Yahoo! News. I have a news 'pull' that keys on any mention of Korea in a news article that sends the headline and the first sentence to me in email form. For weeks, I've been getting articles about Robert Jenkins and his situation. Here's a link to the most recent one Link . There's another here Link . I know that I'm not alone is saying that Robert Jenkins should be in US custody right now. Health is...

A little help please... I spent some time briefly looking at sites like iTunes, Napster, and Sony Music today. I'd like to know if anyone uses these sites, or any similar services and if they have any advice about them. I'm trying to decide which one is best or if any of them are worth using. I specifically want to be able to listen to the purchased songs with my computer, MP3 player (not an iPod), and also my CD player (that can read and play MP3 files). Basically, I need MP3 form...

When I was stationed in Korea the first time, I had the oppurtunity to work with some of the most 'wrong' individuals I've ever met. And I was accepted into this group as one of the 'wrong brothers'. We were exactly that, brothers that always acted 'wrong'. Now what do I mean by wrong, you may ask. Well, I'll get to that here. Mostly, it was just sniping at each other, setting each other up for jokes, remarking about each other (and any topic really) in the least politically correct mann...
