First edit - By special request from a prior post - This is a greywar service announcement. Reading this article and drinking any liquid can be detrimental to your computer equipment and your sinuses. Use caution while reading. I got this in email a few years back and kept it in a word document because it's so funny. Some truly priceless stuff here. Kids these days... HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY? You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she...

I found this on a new North Korean website today. I'd post the link, but you have to sign up for a username and password to get to this page. Here's the link to the homepage Link It looks to be a translation by a Korean. I checked the Korean page to see the original story in Korean but it's only on the English page. Lots of other interesting stuff on the site - lots of propaganda. Once upon a time, there lived a bad-tempered cock in a village . He swaggered, saying that he was t...

Today was my first full honors funeral. The deceased was a veteran of 21 years of service. He was also an employee of 20 years for the US Postal Service after retiring from the military. The family requested full honors, to include pall bearers, for today's service. The odd thing was that they asked for pall bearers at the chapel and at the cemetery. After talking to some of the NCO's that have had this detail before, I found out that this using military servicemembers as pall bearers in...

First edit - maybe more people would have read this and signed the petition if I had known how to spell censorship yesterday... In case you didn't know, there has been a web blockage going on in South Korea for a few weeks. Immediately after the beheading of a Korean national in Iraq, the Ministry of Information and Communications Link moved to block access to anyone in Korea trying to view the video on the internet. In doing this, they have blocked access to many foreign sites, to inc...

As I sat in my office eating lunch, I suddenly had a flashback to a childhood memory. I distinctly remembered the plot from an Encyclopedia Brown story and it really felt good to remember somthing like that. I borrowed Encyclopedia Brown books from the library all the time and I remember they were great reading. You could read one of the many stories in each book very quickly and I definetely enjoyed the stories where I figured out the mystery before I turned to the solution page. I m...

PT VIII The last few days went by very quickly and without major incident. We were located near the edge of the ‘box’ (the area inside which the game is played – if you leave the box, you die – I know a very funny Frydaddy story about being placed outside the box during a later trip to JRTC, I’ll have to write that one up later, it’s MUCH shorter than this one). One of the advantages of this was that we weren’t likely to be found by enemy on the ground. We had to stay alert, though, bec...

PT VII We got our helicopter ride later that day. We didn’t buckle into our seats and the crew chief never checked us. We got up in the air and the pilot started flying doors open, nap of the earth. Anyone that’s done this knows that if you’ve buckled up, it’s a wild ride, very much like a roller coaster. But if you haven’t buckled in and you’re sitting next to the open door, it’s down right terrifying. We sat with our rucks on our laps and our arms and legs grapevined in order to kee...

PT VI Well, this was the morning of the enemies ‘Big Attack’. We got word about 15 minutes after dawn that the enemy was moving but the battalion was holding them. A short time after that, one enemy T-62 broke the lines and moved right to the TOC. As it rolled up, we fired at it, but M-16s are no good against armor. The battalion had no anti-tank weapons inside the TOC area, so the only thing that slowed the tank down was when the ground guide (safety guy that walks in front of the tan...

PT V When the convoy finally stopped we got off the trucks and immediately moved out towards the site we had pre-selected on the map. We spent all of one night there. Late that night, Frydaddy and myself, went to sleep. We got up an hour before dawn and P-Ro and Church went to sleep. Right after first light, Frydaddy came to me (he was on guard and I was on the radio), and told me that he could see a two man enemy recon element. He said they were heading right at us and if they didn’t...

PT IV P-Ro woke me up the next morning. He had already gone off with the OC to collect our gear and we were getting together to inventory it all. We were also expecting a visit from our company commander. We found a spot to check our stuff and eat some breakfast. It didn’t take long for our commander to show up. We were interrogated for a while and asked to make sworn statements. Our OC was questioned, too. He then went off to measure how short the drop had been. We found out late...

PT III We left behind three rucks and our antenna. We found out in the morning that the parachute had caught on the antenna and broken two of the elements off. We set off (towards the drop zone!) to find our OC. Ironically, our OC was fast asleep in the back of his truck, just meters away from the edge of the drop zone. We told him what happened. He told us to head down the road back to the TOC and let them know what happened. We headed down the road. The whole way, Church was s...

Pt II of VIII - Yeah, that's right, it's an eight parter. The whole thing is done, but I'll post a few parts today, and the rest tomorrow. I don't want to flood JU with a bunch of posts all at once. I woke up in a sitting position. I didn't know why I was sitting up but there I was. I could hear Church yelling "Short drop, short drop!" but I had no idea what he was yelling about. I looked up and saw a massive object roll over once just ten feet from where I was sitting. And I c...

I like telling stories about things I’ve done in the Army. I think that I’m a decent storyteller. A friend once said that you could fill up a year with listening to the stories I tell, but then you started to hear some of them again. Well, this is probably the one I’ve told more often than any other - I’ve told this story more times than I can remember. I enjoy telling it. Most people that know me know this story. If you’ve heard it before, feel free to skip it this time. If you haven’...
