I did this once before and it got a decent response. I was checking out some of my favorite 'daily' links today and I came across this picture at the Astronomy Picture of the Day . There's a link in my sidebar. This is actually yesterday's picture (I was a bit busy at work, so didn't check it out then). Check it out and check the archives, too. There are some truly beautiful pictures there. You can see the Earth Lights at Night picture in the archives. There's all kinds of really cool...
On another thread today, I got a little silly in an attempt to lighten the mood and maybe help in some small way to keep the flames from erupting. Some commented that it was funny and suggested reposting under humor so that more people might see... so, here it is - The setup - Someone asked - "Where did America go? I look out my window and uhmm, its still there. " And I answered with - Actually, that is just an illusion. I have taken America for "safekeeping". It is in a co...

A question I get a lot when I meet new people is, "So, how did you hurt your back?" Now, you may ask, "How does that ever come up in a normal conversation?" Well, I'll tell you, it happens more often than you might think, but that's because it's not an unusual topic to discuss in the military. I mean, it's pretty apparent there is something different when the PT leader tells the group to do 50 situps and I brazenly ignore him/her and do crunches instead. Also, when the topic of ruck march...
Tomorrow, 5 Oct 2004, will be 12 years in the Army for me. Sometimes, I can't believe it's been that long. The time seems to have flown by in a blur at times. It's incredible that I packed in so much in that time. I've been stationed in two countries (that counts the US - sometimes Hawaii seemed foreign) and been to three others in the line of duty. And sometimes, when I wake up, I know exactly how old I am and how long I've been in. There are days when it's an effort to get my sock...
So, I got more calls yesterday. They were the standard. "Did you call me?" "Still no. Just like every other time." CLICK. But, things took an interesting turn yesterday. Before I hung up, I decided to vent on this guy a little more. I went on about how he was really starting to annoy me and that I had never called him (not 100% true, I once hit the redial button after an EARLY morning wake up call from him) and that I had no plans to EVER call him, so he should please try to fig...
Well, we had a bunch of time left over at the end of the last class hour today, so before letting the students start the weekend early, I had them tell another chain story. This was a different group of students from the last time, but this one was just as entertaining. Once upon a time (litererally the student said 'when a tiger smoked a cigarrette' which is a phrase that means a long time ago), there was a very manly woman. (This sentence completely threw the rest of the class room int...
I got the idea for this earlier today and have to thank Gideon and Little Whip for the inspiration. It started with Gideon's "Welcome to JU..." article Link . I commented that when I first came to JU, I was kind of mild in my posting. I still am in some ways. I stay off the politics forums. I don't post much that is inflammatory. Mostly funny stuff that happens to me with the occasional rant. Well, while I was commenting, I got a little off topic and wrote about my very first feat...
I nearly ran someone over today as I drove home from work. It would have been an accident and in my opinion, completely this jerks fault, but it still pisses me off. I pulled up to an intersection right near fisherman's wharf in downtown Monterey. The street I was turning off is a one way street that ends at an intersection that has 5 inlets/outlets. I was sitting at the red light, waiting to turn right onto Del Monte. There was traffic coming out of the tunnel, so I waited for a break...
Just checked the mail and my Regular Guy stuff arrived from CafePress.com! I didn't want to link to a picture on the sales website, but now that I have my stuff, I can take a picture of it and then post that. So, here is the sticker. I also got a coffee mug with the same logo. Yeah, I'm a dork. I know this. Make it 102 on my list.
Boredom, a digital camera, and a blog can add up to some really odd stuff...
Well, this is my 100th post here at JU. So, I've stolen an idea that I've seen on other blogs here and elsewhere (most recently CS-Guy's blog). Here are 100 things about me. Enjoy. 1. I am a Staff Sergeant in the US Army. 2. I am married. 3. I have 1.75 dogs (go read my “I have a 3-legged dog” post). 4. I teach Korean at DLI. 5. I am a 3/3/2 in Korean. 6. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but I went to high school in Clearwater, Florida. 7. I live in Seaside, California right n...
OK, this is something that is really not that big a deal at all, just something I've been thinking about recenlty (yeah, I probably do need some help). Over the past week, my score has dropped by three points on three separate occasions. I know what you're thinking... 'How can that be? There's never been a problem with JU's math before...' Well, it's not a problem with the math, I can assure you. I've been trolled. Now, the next thing to pop into your mind is 'How can that be? chipr...

Today in class, I had some extra time during one of the class hours, so I turned the class over to the students and let them make a story one sentence at a time. We went around the room and each student got to add whatever they wanted. I started them off by telling them that it was New Year's Day (¼³³¯ - GTV FEV) and they should start telling the story of Myong Ju's holiday. Here is a rough English translation of what was said. Anything in parenthesis is my own addition or explanation. ...
