It's has been a pretty good morning, so far. We had a long run for PT this morning (Museum Field to Lover's Point Park and back). My back has been feeling good lately, so once I get past the first mile or so, I'm warmed up and running fairly well. I actually beat our PT leader to the turn around point today, but that has more to do with the fact that he let us start early while he waited for stragglers to show up. He is significantly faster than me but as I got closer to the turn around, ...

For PT today, we went running along the bike/jog path towards Lover's Point Park. Today is the start of the half day schedule at work, so we decided to take it easy for PT and didn't go all the way to the park. Instead we did a 20 minute out, 20 minute back run. This time, though, our PT leader made a point of running from the first person back to the last person and checking to make sure they did the entire 20 minutes out part. We have some serious slackers. Honestly, at the start of th...

As many of you know, I have a new addiction - World of Warcraft. It's a really fun game and I'm having a great time. Draginol has created a guild, Myth, Inc. , and a number of JoeUsers, among others, are members. We already have had some groups get together within the guild to do some questing and we've also shared items we've created or looted within the guild. To me, it's much more fun to make something and give it to a friend instead of sell or auction it off. Of course, if I need t...

This morning, I got to be PT leader. The guy that's usually in charge was on duty last night and he asked me to take charge today. Oh, joy! I didn't get the email that I thought I would about yesterdays run. I figured he'd send out an email to all of us about paying attention to detail and completing the runs as directed, but appararently, he chewed out the dog guy yesterday and that was it. Or, so I could have hoped... When dog guy got to PT this morning, he decided to tell me all ab...

This is related to my last article, but I figured it's mostly a different topic, so I'd make it a separate article. If after reading this, you don't see the logic, just remember that 30 is better than 15... While running this morning, I twisted my ankle a little. Not really badly, just enough to make me wince and hop a couple steps. I have pretty resiliant ankles, though. I've sprained both of them so many times over the years that the physical therapist has told me I'm just one really...

We recently changed our weekly PT plan. We used to do two (kind of) long runs a week and now we do only one. The difference is that the old runs were timed runs and too many people were shamming. They run 20 minutes out really slowly and then pick up the pace and get back in 12 So now, our long run is for distance, not time. For those of you familiar with DLI and the Monterey area, we start at Museum Field (at the base of the hill) and head down to the bike path and run out to Lover's Po...

Been a while since I posted a picture blog. This shot is from when I was a student attending class right here at DLI. It's from July 93. We were just past the halfway point of our class and had already lost four of the ten students we'd started with. One of the guys in this picture 'rolled' into our class after several months of medical hold for a knee injury. Sadly, we lost him about two weeks after this picture was taken and another one of the guys about a month later. Both were for n...

A slow day at the Staff Duty Desk today. Nothing going on but the football games. At least I have that to help me stay awake. I slept poorly last night, so I've been fighting the Z monster already. The good thing though is that a slow day usually means a quiet day and I'd rather the day passed slowly and quietly than eventfully. Nothing good comes from an eventful duty rotation. I've been watching the doors all day. Apparently, the new CSM likes to come in on the weekend and work. ...

So, last night, as usual, I forgot to wash my PT uniform until just before bed. This is par for the course, as the last thought on my mind when I get home is doing laundry, honestly. This isn't a lazy guy thing, I just know that I have clean clothes to change in to when I get home, so little thought goes into the mostly empty laundry basket. But, usually before bed, my thoughts turn to anything special I need to remember or plan for on the next day. PT is one of those things. So, just be...

Well, it's been a few days since I've posted. I've commented here and there, but it's been longer since I've posted a blog article. I could say that it's been a busy few days, but that's not really true. I came home early on Wednesday. Schoolwide we got permission to leave an hour early and since my normal go home time is an hour before most everyone else's, I left at 2:30 PM. I spent the afternoon and evening relaxing at home. I played with the dogs and wished I had the World of Wa...

I Feel Good Today I slept poorly last night, so this is completely unexpected. One of the dogs got sick and threw up on the bed around 0200. My wife and I both got up and between the two of us, we changed the sheets (we kept the plastic on the matress when we bought it for just this type of thing), let both the dogs down, cleaned up Umji after she threw up again, and went back to bed. Well, by the time that was all over, I was wide awake. I didn't fall back asleep until nearly 0330 an...

Dear Sofa, I'd like to thank you for your years of service to our home. You have truly been member of our family. We've spent so much time together watching TV or reading. You've always been there for me. Like the time I re-injured my back and had to spend a few days pretty much living on you. I also remember fondly the Sunday mornings in Hawaii. Early morning coffee and eggs on the sofa made football all the better. You always had enough room for me to lie down and enjoy the ga...

So, the holiday season is gearing up. Earlier and earlier, it seems, every year. And this year, it looks as if eBay has decided to really jump on the bandwagon. I've been a member of eBay for years now. I haven't bought and sold an overwhelming amount of stuff in that time. My feedback score is only in the 90's (100% positive) and my total number of transactions is below 150. But, I have found a lot of stuff there to buy and I've cleaned out a lot of the back room closet and made so...
